Kleópatra
When we left England at the beginning of this year we left our two tortoiseshell cats, Camille and Tusca, with Joannas parents in England where they are doing well in their retirement years. Lots of space and mice and all a cat would need.
A couple of months after coming to Iceland we rescued two abandoned cats and took them in. They are Joy (Jolyon gave her the name) who is a white and ginger lady about 18 months old now. The picture of health and happiness. The other lady is a red top siamese by the name of Kleópatra (she already had this Icelandic version of the name). She is about 7 years old and is not so healthy. These two ladies have made life in Garður, Iceland and later in Reykjavík, Iceland that little bit easier for J and J during difficult times ...
Ever since she moved in there have been various signs of Kleópatras unhealthiness ... we've taken her to the vets on two occations and once they operated on her but found nothing. At some point we decided not to mither her with constant vet visits and that the best thing we could do, whilst she wasn't in any pain, was to just let her enjoy life while she had it. We know a bit about Kleópatras history. She lived with her owner and never left the house. The owner then abandoned her when these signs of poorlyness started showing themselves. We get the feeling Kleópatra more or less had the run of the house as we have had to teach her some basic cat manners ... i.e don't scratch the furniture, climb on the kitchen table and remember to go outside or in the cat box to do stuff ... :-/
Anyway, in recent days, she has not been doing very well, seems to be in quite a bit of pain and uncomfortness and is getting skinnier and skinnier ... she is nought but skin and bones at the moment ... soooooo the difficult decision was made this morning to put her to sleep :-(
We are going to try and enjoy the weekend with her but there would have to be some drastic improvement for things to change ... it's not fair on the lady to have her suffer so even though we care about her and want her around. So that's Kleópatra ... at least she got to live a little with us and explore new things ... such as the outside world ... it's all very sad ...
Something different. The phone technician let us down and didn't come to our house to sort out the phoneline so we still have no phone or internet. This means that there won't be any more blog entries until monday now ... sorry! Have a good weekend all of you ... we'll be using ours to say goodbye to someone we've not known long enough but feels like an old friend ...
